How do I know which modifications are best for me?
Most people have limited knowledge about accessibility equipment and modifications and, as a result, are not in a position to know what kind of modifications will best meet their needs. Don't commit to any modifications without getting an assessment of your requirements from the experts at EHLS. You can rely on the knowledge and expertise we've gained by successfully completing thousands of accessibility projects since 1991. Give us a call and we'll be happy to share our knowledge with you.
-
Why should I work with EHLS?
Experience, knowledge, integrity. In addition to these qualities EHLS offers a full range of products and services which allows us to always recommend the best solution for your accessbility problem. Contact us and find out why local building departments refer clients to us.
-
Should I install a lift myself?
Only if you want trouble! Virtually every reported accident with accessibility lift equipment resulted from installation by untrained persons. Also, dependable lift operation requires a professional installation.
-
Is EHLS the lowest cost provider?
Yes, we often are the lowest cost provider, as evidenced by the fact that we get more competitive bid work from state agencies than any other vendor. But more important than cost is getting a solution that meets your needs safely and conveniently at a fair price. Don't confuse a low cost with a good deal. We replace dozens and dozens of "low cost" accessibility modifications each year with solutions that actually work for the clients!
-
Will Medicare help pay for accessiblity equipment or modifications?
The short answer is no. At this time Medicare will not pay for accessibility equipment or remodeling. Medicare does pay for some items classified as durable medical equipment.
-
What can I do if I can't afford to pay for accessibility modifications?
There are a number of government agencies and private organizations that help pay for accessibility modifications. Please refer to this brochure we've created to find contact information for a number of organizations in the Chicago area.

I need wheelchair access to my home do you recommend a ramp or a lift?
The choice between using a ramp or a lift to provide wheelchair access to your home will depend on a number of factors. The most important factor to consider is the vertical distance between the ground and the entrance you want to reach. Though there is no hard and fast rule, we generally find that a lift is a more effective solution when the vertical height is greater than 24". You can check our ramps and lifts pages for more information. The best way to make sure that you get the right solution is to call our office ((888) 254-7108) and schedule an onsite assessment by one of accessibility specialists.
